GREEN DEAL

What is the Green Deal

The Green Deal is a new Government initiative which is designed to reduce carbon emissions cost effectively by improving the energy efficiency of all UK households and commercial properties.

The Green Deal will provide funding for energy efficiency measures to be installed without the need to pay upfront costs. Once the measures have been installed, a charge is added to the electricity bill to pay for the measures but the net cost of the bill will be reduced due to the savings achieved from the improved energy performance of the property.

Only authorised installers will be able to identify themselves as 'Green Deal Installers' and use the Green Deal Quality Mark. SolaSave will be authorised under the Green Deal to install a range of technologies.

From October 2012, Green Deal Advisors will be available to carry out energy assessments of properties and draw up proposals to improve the energy performance by installing qualifying measures under the Green Deal.

Green Deal Providers will provide the finance mechanism for the measures and approve the installations to be carried out by authorised installers.

It is expected that installations will start in January 2013.
